Journey Through Mictlan
Combining my love of boardgames and fascination with Aztec (Mexica) culture I created this timeline as a fun, introductory explanation of the Aztec afterlife.
Programs Used: Adobe Illustrator, Adobe After Effects
Icon Development:
With the subject matter of the infographic in mind, I largely looked toward my own culture and its rich history for inspiration. The icons on the left are the few of the many directions that I sketched brought to a final mockup.
The design on the top was largely inspired by the Florentine Codex, which combined the art of the Nahuatl and the Europeans and appealed to me for the graphic use of line and color.
The middle design is loosely based off the mexican folk art of papel picado which is used to create the iconic banners seen at fiestas. Rather than using negative space, I tried to translate the negative into linear shape against a solid background.
The design on the bottom came from experimenting with the base shapes and colors of the top design. I ultimately decided that they did not fit the theme of the project.
